WAITANGI PARK
Team work makes the dream work at Corporate Challenge Wellington! join us on Wednesday, 13th November for a fun-filled night of team building, fitness and friendly competition.
Nestled between Te Papa and Chaffers Dock, right in the centre of the city, our event HQ at Waitangi Park unlocks the gorgeous Wellington waterfront. The course takes in all the sights - Te Papa, Whairepo Lagoon and the Well_ngton sign - as it follows the wide public esplanade around the harbour. Views forever and usually (always) a decent wind to chase you to the finish line.
After you finish your 5k - running or walking a flat, two-lap course around the waterfront - grab a banana and water or sport drink before heading back to your tent to see how your mates did. The best performances of the day - plus our amazing team managers - are acknowledged at the Awards Cermony at 7:30pm. Spot prizes wrap up around 8pm and there's time to exchange war stories as you pack down.
What a great night out for the team!

Event Venue
On an average blustery day in the capital city, you'll be glad of the shelter offered by Chaffers Dock ... and our Event HQ in Waitangi Park takes shelter behind it. This awesome inner-city space is easily accessed from all points in downtown Wellington and is just a short walk from Te Papa. A favourite of the lunchtime boot-camp crowd, the venue is just the right size to accommodate our Corporate Challenge crowd.
Important! Team tents and supplies may be dropped off in the park by accessing the grass from removed bollards on Herd St.
Important! There is no parking on the grassed area during the event.
Location, Access & Parking
Many participants in Corporate Challenge Welllington take the easy walk from downtown offices to the venue. For those coming from further afield, there are several parking buildings and lots nearby as well as a selection of street parking. Once you make it to the general area of the park, you'll have no trouble locating Event HQ.
Important! Corporate Challenge Wellington takes place on public footpaths and open spaces on the waterfront. There are no active road crossings on the route and no road closures or other traffic management restrictions around the venue. Participants must remain aware of potential vehicle movements around Clyde Quay and Te Papa.
2023 Corporate Challenge Wellington
The Course
Corporate Challenge Wellington showcases the amazing public spaces of the Wellington waterfront. The event venue and start/finish line are in front of the Chaffers Dock building in Waitangi Park, with Te Papa as a backdrop and over-looked by St Gerard's Church and Monastery.
The course comprises two flat, counter-clockwise, offset laps. Starting with a loop around Clyde Quay you then head out on the concourse to a turnaround at Te Papa. Back at Waitangi Park, lap one is in the bag with 2km complete and 3km to go. The second lap heads out as far as TSB Arena before heading back via the City to Sea bridge and Odins Plaza.
Important! Please be respectful of other users of the waterfront. Once they become aware of the event, most other pedestrians are happy to move to the side of the path.
1. PLOTAROUTE is a third-party mapping service with an interactive map of the route.

Directions | The Corporate Challenge Wellington course consists of two offset, counter-clockwise laps. Both laps loop around Clyde Quay apartments before heading out on the waterfront to Te Papa. On the first lap, turn at Te Papa and head back to Waitangi Park. On the second lap, head past Te Papa all the way out to TSB Arena, returning on the city side of Whairepo Lagoon. Event marshals will be present at all changes of direction and distance markers will highlight each kilometer of the course. |
Course Etiquette | Slower runners and walkers, please start at the back of the field. You will enjoy the event so much more if you don't have keen runners trying to get past you as you start. As a general rule, if not running or walking with your friends, keep to the left side of the footpath to allow others to pass you. Slower walkers may be lapped during the first 1km to keep your wits about you as faster runners approach from behind. |
Pedestrians & Dogs | Please be courteous to members of the public and give them space on the footpaths - they have as much right to use them as you do. Friendly, well behaved dogs on a lead are welcome at the event venue, however participants must not be accompanied by pets. |
Toilets | There are several public toilets on course and you will also run past both sets of toilets at Waitangi Park (see above) as you complete your first lap. |

Safety |
|
---|---|
On Course | You must always remain fully aware of your surroundings and look out for uneven surfaces, obstacles or vehicles. Even where the road is closed, we cannot guarantee it will be traffic-free. Only proceed where you are satisfied it is safe to do so. |
Medical | A trained medical contractor will be stationed at the finish line to deal with any illness or injury. If you see anyone in distress on course, stay with them and send a message to the next marshal. If it is a life-threatening emegency, ask someone to call 111. In the case of an emergency, our marshals or race crew will contact the on-site medical team in the first instance and - should there be any delay - dial 111. Important! In certain circumstances, on-site medicals may be able to respond to an emergency faster than 111. |
Marshals | Our event marshals are easy to spot in bright orange high-vis vests. Please obey the marshals where they are acting for your safety. Marshals can make emergency calls on your behalf or contact event medical staff. |
